The Non-Ferrous Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for leading overseeing yard operations and ultimately the achievement of operational objectives pertaining to quality control, performance, production efficiency, costs management, customer service, and workplace safety. The successful candidate also will be responsible for the supervision, training, development, performance, retention, and engagement of employees.  

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all yard operations

  • Responsible for receiving, grading, and weighing all incoming non-ferrous material from public customers and light industrial accounts

  • Keen ability to identify, grade and sort non-ferrous metals

  • Supervisor and prepares commodities for outbound shipping, including scheduling of non-ferrous shipments to end consumers

  • Weekly reporting on inventory volumes, grades, forecasted shipments

  • Serve as a role model, support, and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies and practices

  • Operate and train employees on operation of computer scale systems, forklifts, balers, and other processing equipment

  • Will be required to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, to write correspondence, memos, and schedule; to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and fellow staff

  • 5 – 7 years of experience working in scrap yard

  • Knowledge of inventory management, shipping and receiving material

  • Must have prior supervisory experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environment, recycling, and metal industry

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, telephone etiquette and computer knowledge

  • Problem solving, reasoning, and “thinking out of the box” will be a constant requirement; in addition, applying common sense understanding to better serve our customers’ needs

  • Have working knowledge of non-ferrous metals

  • Bilingual Spanish a plus

  • Have strong sales skills and strive to develop long-term customer relationships

  • Ability to negotiate prices, service and terms with both customers and carriers

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrate strong motivation and resourcefulness; be self-motivated

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

  • Willing to work different shifts and travel up to 25% of the time as needed
